Samsung Galaxy S5 rumoured to include eye-scanning technology

Samsung could be looking to one-up rival Apple with the introduction of an eye-scanning sensor in its next-generation Galaxy S5 smartphone, which is expected arrive next year.

Smartphones and other devices with fingerprint scanners have existed before, but the Touch ID technology chosen by Apple for its latest iPhone 5S handset is a little different. Instead of swiping your finger over a strip-like sensor, which can lead to inaccurate readings, Touch ID works by simply pressing your finger against the home button to unlock the phone.

It's a neat trick, although its contribution to security was brought into question when a group of German researchers were able to create a fake fingerprint and unlock the device using little more than a camera, printer and PVA glue.

Muhammad Aamir ban reviewed after Anti-Corruption Law Revision: ICC

Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir five-year ban will be reviewed only after the International Cricket Council anti-corruption code is updated, ICC said on Saturday.

The ICC board was informed that a more robust and strengthened anti-corruption code will be submitted for discussion and approval at the next meeting in January.

"The ICC board decided to review (Amir s) matter in due course after the revised anti-corruption code has been finalized and adopted," the ICC said in a statement after its two-day board meeting.

Violin that played as Titanic sank sells for $1.5 million

LONDON: A violin that was being played as the Titanic went down was sold for 900,000 pounds at auction on Saturday, a record price for memorabilia from the doomed ocean liner.

Band leader Wallace Hartley played the instrument, trying to calm passengers as the ship slipped into the frozen waters of the North Atlantic in April 1912 after colliding with an iceberg during its maiden voyage from Southampton to New York.

Hartley's band played the hymn "Nearer, My God, To Thee" as passengers climbed into lifeboats. Hartley and his seven fellow band members all died after choosing to play on. More than 1,500 people died.
